Rafa Nadal Museum: Luxpanel Lighting for Display Cases

Actilum is participating in the renovation of the Rafa Nadal Museum by providing LED backlighting solutions for display cases

The new Rafa Nadal Museum, located at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, has reopened its doors with a revamped, high-tech, and immersive museum experience. Under the concept “Inside the Legend,” the space invites visitors to explore Rafael Nadal’s life, values, and athletic career through audiovisual resources, historical artifacts, interactive areas, and experiences designed to create an emotional connection with the Mallorcan tennis player’s legacy.

For this project, Actilum provided Luxpanel solutions for display cases and backlit elements, offering technical lighting that is uniform and seamlessly integrated into the exhibition design.

The challenge: lighting exhibition pieces as part of an audiovisual and immersive experience

The renovation of the Rafa Nadal Museum offers a visitor experience centered on emotion, technology, and visual storytelling. The tour spans two floors and includes spaces such as the introductory audiovisual tunnel, the “Origins” zone, the area dedicated to the Big Three, “Sports Legends,” and the “King of Clay” space.

In this type of setting, lighting plays a strategic role: it must highlight the exhibits without interfering with the museum’s overall atmosphere. Display cases, panels, and graphic elements require uniform, stable, and precise lighting that complements the museum’s narrative without casting shadows, causing glare, or creating visible light spots.

The goal was to design the lighting for various display cases and light boxes using a technical solution that was reliable, adjustable, and adaptable to the project’s design.

The solution: Luxpanel 24V, adjustable to 4000 K

For the display cases installed primarily in the ATP area, Actilum supplied dimmable 24V Luxpanels, configured with a color temperature of 4000 K and a CRI of 95

This choice provides neutral, balanced, and comfortable lighting, which is particularly well-suited for exhibition spaces where it is important to maintain a clear visual perception of the objects, graphics, and materials on display.

Luxpanel technology distributes light evenly across the illuminated surface, preventing overexposed areas and maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance. Its slim profile and custom manufacturing capabilities make it easy to integrate into display cases, technical furniture, and exhibition structures with specific design requirements.

Technical integration in the service of museum design

The project involved various companies specializing in assembly and installation, which were responsible for implementing the planned solutions for each area of the museum. In the ATP area, the display cases incorporated Luxpanel systems supplied by Actilum and integrated into the exhibition space by ROTULS MANACOR SL, a local company involved in the execution of this phase of the project.

In addition, specific installations using Luxpanel were also carried out in other areas of the museum, including spaces related to Rafael Nadal’s career on clay courts.

Actilum’s contribution focused on providing LED lighting solutions for specific exhibition applications, delivering uniform, dimmable, and discreetly integrated lighting designed to enhance the visual clarity of the display cases and the lighting consistency throughout the museum’s exhibition route.

A leading museum in Mallorca

The Rafa Nadal Museum has established itself as one of Mallorca’s most important sports and tourist attractions, drawing more than 100,000 visitors annually. Its renovation reinforces this position by offering a more immersive, interactive, and technologically advanced experience, aimed at both tennis fans and visitors interested in cultural experiences related to sports.

The new “Inside the Legend” concept combines original artifacts, audiovisual resources, simulators, interactive challenges, and themed areas that highlight not only Rafael Nadal’s major sporting achievements but also the values that have defined his career: hard work, perseverance, humility, and commitment.

In this context, technical lighting plays an essential role in visually organizing the space, supporting the narrative, and highlighting each exhibit.

Result: uniform, integrated lighting tailored to the exhibition space

The solution provided by Actilum made it possible to address the backlighting of display cases with an efficient, dimmable system that offers high uniformity. The color temperature of 4000 K (CRI 95) and Nichia LEDs from Japan provide a neutral light output, suitable for contemporary museum spaces, while the Luxpanel format allows for discreet integration into the display furniture.

The result is functional and thoughtfully designed lighting, intended to enhance the visitor experience without detracting from the museum’s exhibits.

Luxpanel in Museum Projects and Exhibition Spaces

Actilum’s involvement with the Rafa Nadal Museum reinforces the value of Luxpanel as a lighting solution for museums, display cases, experiential retail, cultural spaces, and architectural projects where light must be precisely integrated into the design.

Thanks to its custom manufacturing, uniform light distribution, and compatibility with dimmable systems, Luxpanel allows for the development of technical solutions tailored to each project, while maintaining a clean aesthetic and high visual quality.

The Rafa Nadal Museum represents a new way of understanding exhibition spaces: more immersive, more technological, and more emotional. In projects like this, lighting is not a secondary element, but rather a fundamental tool for guiding the experience, enhancing visual perception, and reinforcing the narrative of the space.

Through its participation in this project, Actilum demonstrates Luxpanel’s ability to integrate into highly demanding museum environments, providing uniform, dimmable, and custom-tailored LED backlighting solutions.
